Kremlin: Russia to retaliate if London confiscates oligarchs’ property

MOSCOW, Jan 31 (PRIME) – If Great Britain confiscates large Russian business owners’ property in the country,  Russia will retaliate to protect its interests, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

“London’s attack on the Russian business presupposes response measures,” he said.

“They will be formulated depending on Russia's interests, if needed."

On January 30, U.K. Foreign Minister Liz Truss said that London does not rule out confiscation of Russian oligarchs’ property to toughen sanctions against Russia if tensions on the Ukrainian border escalate.

The claims to attack business, such as the ones made by the U.K. Foreign Ministry, are rare, Peskov said.

"Here we are talking about an open attack on business,” Peskov said.

“Let's not forget that many Russian companies have large British companies as their strategic partners, strategic co-investors, shareholders, as well as large British companies. In fact, the British cabinet of ministers threatens its large business as well."
